Christoph Leuenberger
From Sweet and Tender
Chris Leuenberger (CH, 1979) studied acting at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts (USA) and choreography at the School for New Dance Development (NL). Based in Amsterdam as a freelance choreographer and performer, Chris collaborates with different artists in various contexts and formations. His piece White Horse – an attempt at live therapy won the ITS Choreography Award 07 and marked the beginning of an ongoing interest in a therapeutic approach to theater. In autumn 2007 Chris founded the collective White Horse together with Lea Martini and Julia Jadkowski. After their debut piece Trip, White Horse is now working on their second production Romance. http://www.whitehorsecollective.wordpress.com
Besides indulging in the therapeutic benefits of collaboration, Chris has been developing a personal line of research about intimacy and masculinity. During Sweet&Tender Collaborations 07 at PAF he launched his project "Searching for Intimacy" for which he asked people to go for intimate walks and to share a bed for one night with him. http://www.searchingforintimacy.blogspot.com
In 2008 his research moved from intimacy to the concept of masculinity. In November 08 his solo MASCULINITY was presented at hetveem Theater in Amsterdam. Chris plans to combine and further investigate these two areas of research by proposing a lab about masculinity and intimacy during PRISMA 09 in Oaxaca and Mexico City. In the lab he will talk about his work with other artists interested in the same subject, go for intimate walks, and show excerpts of his solos Chanson triste and Masculinity.
During Sweet&Tender Collaborations 08 in Porto (PT) Chris started working with Jenny Beyer on a first sketch for UNIEK, which will premiere at the Springdance Festival [1] in Utrecht (NL) on April 25. In 2010 continues his collaboration with Jenny Beyer and Anja Müller in I I I.
