Tommy Noonan
From Sweet and Tender
Tommy Noonan holds a B.A. in English from Vassar College, USA. In 2006 he was awarded a DanceWEB scholarship in Vienna. Between 2006 and 2010 he was based in Freiburg, Germany, directing as well as performing as an actor and dancer with “physical virus collective” - Theater Freiburg. He has also been active in helping to co-found the international artist network and project: Sweet and Tender Collaborations. His work has been performed in Freiburg and Heidelberg Theaters, K2 Festival and Lucky Trimmer Festival in Germany; Festival Instances, Theatre de la Cite International and Arcadi in France; Movimientos Festival in Portugal; The Merce Cunningham Studio and Flea Theater in New York City, Wroclaw Non-Stop Theater Festival in Poland and Festival Internacional de Danza XII in Mexico. He has written texts for publication in Revisita Obscena (Portugal) and Freies Theater Journal (Austria) and the Performance Journal (New York City). In 2008 he was a finalist for the Rolex Mentor and Protogé Arts Initiative with Jirí Kylian in the field of Dance; in the summer of 2009 he was invited to be a contributor to Forum PRISMA in Mexico City and in the fall of 2010 he will be an artist-in-residence at Residencias del Sur, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
His current works are:
now here -- A 10-minute trio for one performer and two motors.
Tout Court -- a tragicomic collaboration between 8 Sweet and Tender artists and pvc-Tanz Freiburg-Heidelberg.
Brother Brother -- A duet with Clint Lutes
Full text of Tommy's lecture, "Dis-Organization", on the principals and possibilities of Sweet and Tender was delivered in Istanbul at Independent Network's Symposium on Cultural Management, April 2008, at Lucky Thinking in Berlin, and at PRSIMA Forum in Mexico City.
He is currently thinking about proposing The American Dream Project as a possible future collaboration.
